Hi, I am just checking in after a long hiatus. My hope is to help ( more often ) with editing the MDN docs. Is this the place to come and meet other editors?
  • viro
Oh, I've just noticed the links above ( set by Noah ), and will move over to the sumo community discussions forum.
  • viro
I'm also a super newb on IRC. So this all feels very much like when I started using command line instructions.
  • SpikeUK
viro Hello! There is a #mdn channel that may be a better place to find MDN editors.
  • SpikeUK
Oh, they have gone already :(
  • Seburo
vesper: Hello! I might be able to make the (my first) team meeting today. Is it too late to add an item to the agenda?
  • vesper
Seburo: hello! not at all - go on and add it :)
  • Seburo
    vesper: Thank you!
  • vesper
    Thank _you_!
  • Seburo
vesper: I have added an item under "help needed". It is nothing "end of world", just a little project I want to get round to doing.

Just had someone call me from the other side of the world about a car accident I had in the last three years. Either it is a scam or I am still suffering the effects the amnesia. :-)
  • Seburo
Any forum people - there is a spammer posting across several products, I am shooting and destroying right now. :-)
  • Seburo
Is it wrong that I enjoying nuking spammer accounts so much? Anyway...their account is no more. :-)
  • vesper
    Seburo: thanks for that :)
  • alex_mayorga
    Seburo: Keep it up!
  • alex_mayorga
Anyone with "Norton Internet Security" that could add it to support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubl…UNKNOWN_ISSUER#w_antivirus-products please?

there is a dashboard about shield studies at gregglind.github.io/x-shield-inflight-dashboard (currently broken though)
  • guigs
    Thank you philipp!
  • guigs
    added to the notes
  • guigs
    Check out that event!
  • philipp
once the bug at gregglind/x-shield-inflight-dashboard #4 is fixed it could come in handy
  • Tonnes
Speaking of Shield: note that as for the UI in FF, Shield experiments options are not available in localized versions (probably because it's an add-on). That raises questions about l10n both for the product and some Sumo articles (I think 2 now). See support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/shield/discuss/7159 - basically waiting for Joni's response. If anyone can pick this up, please do, or...
  • Tonnes
...point me to the proper bug or person
  • Tonnes
may just nee to contact flod or so

  • alex_mayorga
For reference, page 49 of ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/engli…t_security/2016/manuals/NIShelp.pdf details how to "Turn off and turn on Browser Protection"...
  • Tonnes
    ciao
  • guigs
    Thanks!
  • Seburo
guigs: Do you want me to add your new common response to the common response tool in Kitsune?
  • philipp
guigs: i think the link in public.etherpad-mozilla.org/p/sumo-2017-10-11 about the bounced sync mails is off - can you update it?
  • guigs
Seburo: I think it needs one more look over
  • Seburo
    guigs: ok np
  • Tonnes
action required, in case Joni doesn't notice (either...) support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/templateopenprofilefolder/discuss/7231
  • Seburo
    Tonnes: for linux users...?
  • Tonnes
    yup
  • Seburo
The article looks fine to me.
  • Seburo
    oh, I see it...
  • Seburo
Click next to the profile you want to open.
  • Tonnes
    it lacks the button text
  • Seburo
What is the user trying to do in this instance?
  • Tonnes
    ?
  • Seburo
Sorry... When would I user see this KB article? What problem does it solve?
  • Tonnes
it's a template for opening about:profiles in order to open the profile folder
  • Tonnes
    plus, those buttons appear twice
  • Tonnes
so mentioning of top one / the one with Roaming
  • Tonnes
    s/no
  • Seburo
    (on phone)
  • Tonnes
has anyone ever seen "Launch profile in new browser" in about:profiles actually work in a release version?
  • Tonnes
(it always opens a new window in the current profile for me - this only works in aurora/nightlies)
  • Seburo
Tonnes: Would a screenshot of the Linux buttons be useful?
  • Seburo
(Sorry, parents back from holiday, long call)
  • Tonnes
    Seburo: a screenshot?
  • Seburo
Tonnes: An image of the buttons used on that screen on a Linux version of Firefox.
  • Tonnes
sorry but I'd rather not spend to much time on this. The button text is simply missing (forgotten/overlooked), the note should be moved outside the pre fx56 content as Lan wrote in that discussion, and I just noticed the numbering is causing a numbered list within a numered list when the template is called, see one of it's articles using it. I just wish this can be fixed quickly as it...
  • Tonnes
...affects lots of articles and localizers working on or updating it
  • Tonnes
w regard to the Launch profile button not working ^, that's bug 1367743
  • firebot
    bugzil.la/1367743 — REOPENED, nobody⊙mozilla.org — About:profiles "launch profile in new browser" doesn't work
  • Tonnes
    so, improper content
  • Tonnes
    sigh
  • Seburo
That button does work - launch profile in new browser.
  • Tonnes
    exactly
  • Seburo
I am heading offline for food and sleep after a busy Moz filled afternoon. Take care and hope to chat soon. Bye :-)
  • Noah
Tonnes: Need your help fixing a article url - have a minute? :)
  • Tonnes
    Noah: sure
  • Noah
Tonnes: I want to rename this article title to say: Containers Tabs & the slug to be: containers-tabs
  • Noah
support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/containers-experiment <- I'm ready to submit the changes but just wanted to see if you see any problems that could happen
  • Noah
I know it's not good too make long article slugs. But any other rules in general?
  • Noah
    *to make
  • Tonnes
I think this should work, as long as slugs are shorter than 50 characters and do not contain spaces. In some cases they can even be similar to article titles, e.g. whe the title would be "Containers-Experiment" (i.e. the slug would only use lowercase, and hyphens). They can also be similar for localized articles btw.
  • Tonnes
you can also change article titles and not their slugs, but in that case, copy the old slug, edit the title and copy back the old slug 9as it will change by itself)
  • Tonnes
    (as
  • Tonnes
Noah: are you sure to use ContainerS tabs rather than ContaineR Tabs?
  • Tonnes
both for new title and slug
  • Tonnes
  • Caspy7
Noah: yeah...not a fan here. Don't feel this flows well or makes good or intuitive sense to read. There are multiple other uses that make the adjective singular.
  • Tonnes
hmm.. for a slug, it can contain multiple words that may not be full nouns or matching the title, so that cound be "containers-tabs" allright as in "containers and tabs" if the article would be about those. For the first part in the title I'd use Container Tabs though, like in the article
  • Caspy7
jkt himself refers to them as "Container Tabs" addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/collections/jkt/container-addons
  • jkt
Tonnes: it's "Container Tabs" in about:preferences so I'm trying to stick to that when talking about them
  • jkt
    "Multi-Account Containers" for our extension
  • jkt
and Containers as an overarching term for everything, however we leave that for a technical audience only now
  • Tonnes
jkt: did you see me say it should be otherwise? ;)
  • Caspy7
    Noah: ^
  • jkt
Er no sorry, Caspy just pinged me and I read only half the scroll back, thanks for checking on terminology though :)
  • Tonnes
    np :)
  • Noah
Tonnes: ah yes! Thanks for that catch!
  • Noah
Caspy7: sorry, I meant to leave out the S there on "Containers". Apologies
  • Caspy7
    ah, ok
  • Tonnes
say, what's the diff between a Reviewer and a Knowledge Base Reviewer?
  • Noah
Tonnes: alright, I'll submit it now. Also has the title field always been directly linked to the slug field? I just noticed after editing the title the slug auto changed to match
  • Noah
perhaps it's always been that way :P
  • Noah
Tonnes: good question. I believe they may be the same but one group may slighlty have 1 or 2 more features. Although I think a KB Editor would have the most permissions
  • Tonnes
not really linked, the slug is created after editing the title (not the other way around of course), therefore you'd need to paste back the old slug if you want to keep that
  • Noah
Tonnes: also I figured out how to see who marked a forum post as a solution. I finally remembered how we implemented it & it is very, very subtle. You'll be surprised ;)
  • Noah
Ah, cool. So then it is possible to have a slug different from the title?
  • Tonnes
and in case it's unclear, I guess the slug would need no S either for container - jkt may confirm
  • Tonnes
    oh cool (mark solution)
  • Noah
yes, I removed the S from there too. It looked weird :P
  • Tonnes
yes, the slug can be anything you want - it's just auto-generated, and only once I think
  • Tonnes
so, any Reviewer is able to edit and review - and moreover allowed - articles?
  • Tonnes
    err
  • Tonnes
    is allowed to edit.... ^
  • Noah
Tonnes: yes I believe so. I can't remember if I was in the Editor group in the old days but I believe I noticed some missing features that could only be done as a KB Editor :)
  • Noah
I'll try to verify later to see if anything really is missing
  • Tonnes
thanks.. no real need, was just curious about the above. We seem to have lots of reviewers but everyone basically "respects" content changes and leave all those reviews to one or 2 persons, even if they are leading to current issues
  • Noah
Tonnes: very true. I remember in the beginning butting heads with someone on reviews so I backed off & never got back in the flow of helping with approvals. But I also had a fear of approving something that I wasn't supposed to as silly as that sounds :P
  • Noah
Tonnes: also I teased a subtle way to see who marked a post as solved. See this screenshot: i.imgur.com/MY7n5yu.png ;)
  • Tonnes
agree - felt the same / hey that's cool and simple :)
  • Noah
Right? I always forget it's there. But it makes sense
  • alex_mayorga
Spanish forum cleared for the day...
  • Caspy7
    alex_mayorga++
  • Noah
    beat me to it!
  • Noah
alex_mayorga: Are questions increasing in the spanish forum? Predicting there may be a huge jump when 57 is released but curious if that's starting now :)
  • alex_mayorga
Noah: Dunno, I don't really keep score. I'm sure our overlords have a graphic somewhere...
  • Noah
alex_mayorga: lol noted. I'll do some investigating
