    Hello!
  • marchiore
    Anyone in there?
  • mbrubeck
    marchiore: hi
  • marchiore
    Hi!
  • marchiore
    I'm Matheus, 26, from Brazil
  • marchiore
Willing to help the open source
  • mbrubeck
    welcome!
  • marchiore
But didn't know witch project to choose
  • marchiore
which one is the best one to start?
  • mbrubeck
whatcanidoformozilla.org can help you find different Mozilla projects, with instructions to start contributing
  • marchiore
    any adivice?
  • marchiore
    sorry for the question
  • mbrubeck
Are you interested in writing code? Any particular programming languages you know or like?
  • marchiore
    but what you do?
  • mbrubeck
I am a Mozilla employee, and I work on servo.org
  • marchiore
Yes, I'm a developer wiling to help with code. I currently work with PHP and I know basics of vuej and swift (iOS)
  • mbrubeck
marchiore: Firefox for iOS is written in Swift, so that might be a good place to start
  • marchiore
I saw on your link that you have Firefox Focus
  • marchiore
this seems to be a nice project too
  • mbrubeck
    yeah!
  • marchiore
    there so many projects
  • marchiore
    :)
  • marchiore
    Hey man
  • marchiore
    are you still there?
  • marchiore

  • youpi
Hello, I'm wondering how I should include author information in a patch
  • youpi
I didn't see on developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mo…ilities#Commit_message_restrictions something like a u= tag, only an -u option to be passed to hg, but how should I include that into my mere patch file?
  • arai
author is in other field than commit message
  • arai
it's defined under [ui] in .hgrc
  • arai
    username variable
  • youpi
I know about hg, but I'm to commit with hg, I only submit a patch file to the bugzilla
  • arai
have you already exported a patch?
  • youpi
    yes
  • arai
can you open it in text editor?
  • youpi
so we have to commit then export the patch to be put on bugzilla ?
  • arai
    yes
  • arai
the patch file should contain a line starts with "# User" or something
  • arai
    that's author information
  • arai
  • youpi
    sure, I see
  • arai
    there, ffxbld is the author
  • youpi
I'm just surprised that people have to create an hg commit
  • youpi
that raises the barrier to providing patches
  • youpi
(ergl, sorry, I missed adding "not" in "I'm not to commit with hg")
  • youpi
    anyway, thanks arai !
  • acasaccia
Hello! After I found a good-first-bug I'd like to work on, how do I get it assigned to me? Also are there any time expectations for submitting a fix?
  • Standard8
acasaccia: generally you can comment in the bug that you’re working on it
  • acasaccia
    Standard8: OK, thanks
  • Standard8
acasaccia: I guess my normal expectations would be to expect something in a week or two, even if its just a WIP or questions. Otherwise I’d be wondering if you were actually going to be working on it
  • Standard8
acasaccia: but that will vary for different mentors
  • Standard8
most good first bugs don’t actually have a time limit for when they need to be done by
  • Standard8
sometimes priorities change, but not often for those types of bugs
  • acasaccia
Standard8: 1 week sounds like a fair amount of time to give feedback
  • Standard8
well, it can depend on the patch
  • Standard8
some of them might be larger ones
  • acasaccia
Is there anything I can do to speed up compile time on Windows? It's running since 1 hour and still going....
  • acasaccia
Other than buying a faster machine
  • Standard8
do you know if you are going to be patching just js/xul/html files, or are you changing c++ as well?
  • acasaccia
I am already compiling the artifacts version :(
  • Standard8
I’m surprised that’s so long. I don’t use windows, but generally it just downloads the builds from the servers, and then unpacks them
  • Standard8
  • acasaccia
I meant to build the artifacts version but I might have selected the full one by mistake. It's not downloading anything, just compiling.
  • Standard8
yeah, that might be the full one
  • Standard8
you need to create the .mozconfig file for the aritfacts one
  • mochipls
Hi there! My name is Helen and I'm a junior dev looking to contribute to
  • mochipls
Mozilla, if there's anything available please let me know.
  • Standard8
    firebot: newcomer
  • firebot
Standard8: Tell the newcomer to click to: wiki.mozilla.org/Contribute for some quick reading, and remind them to use #introduction for further questions :D
  • Standard8
    mochipls: ^^^
  • Standard8
mochipls: joshmatthews.net/bugsahoy/?unowned=1&simple=1 is a good place to start looking for bugs if you want to fix things
  • Standard8
there’s checkboxes down the side to turn things on/off
  • mochipls
    LOL thank you :D @Standard8
  • acasaccia
Hello! I got my environment up and running and I can see simple changes applied when I build Firefox. Now I am wondering how can I debug/log from Javascript code in the UI layer?
  • adrian17
  • acasaccia
    thanks adrian17
