Hey; Was just wondering what the difference is between these two links: mozilla.github.io/devtools-docs/index.html docs.firefox-dev.tools
  • foobarbaz
They seem the same, but very different
  • adrian17
(looks like the latter are built from the current mozilla-central repo, so I'd trust them a bit more.)
  • foobarbaz
    Ah, gotcha :+1:
  • foobarbaz
Where do you guys persist configuration state out of interest?
  • foobarbaz
I understand redux is being used, but is that temporary, or does it get persisted when the browser is closed/opened
  • [R]
Is there a way to programatically push something into X11's selection buffer from the dev tools?
  • [R]
Alternatively, into the copy buffer is fine, just means I need to call xsel a little bit.
  • [R]
    Ah copy()
  • foobarbaz
Is it possible to use react dev tools.. on firefox's dev tools?
  • foobarbaz
So I can see the react component hierarchy, and know what files I need to modify? :)
  • adrian17
(foobarbaz: as for the devtools preferences, they use the preferences service - you can see review the options in about:config)
  • [R]
Ah, copy() does both primary and selection (clipboard), nice.
  • foobarbaz
    cheers
  • adrian17
foobarbaz: enable and open the browser toolbox; you can inspect the debugger with it.
  • foobarbaz
    That's pretty awesome
  • foobarbaz
@adrian17 Hm, I was hoping to update the devtools to have a pretty print option for JSON, in the same way that when you visit httpbin.org/get in the browser you can select 'Raw Data' and 'Pretty Print'
  • foobarbaz
But it seems like the devtools is all react, and visiting httpbin.org/get and inspecting it shows it's using xul still?
  • adrian17
you mean, you'd like pretty printing here? puu.sh/ypmOK/795f74ce32.png
  • foobarbaz
Yeah, I'd like to do two things. I want firefox to remember that my default selection when visiting httpbin.org/get is 'Raw Data', and 'Pretty Print'
  • foobarbaz
And i'd like for the network tab on the devtools of firefox to offer a pretty print option, which is useful for inspecting XHR requests
  • foobarbaz
Just switched from Chrome -> Firefox, and wanted to see if I could make some tweaks :)
  • foobarbaz
@adrian17 So if I visit api.giphy.com/v1/gifs/search in my browser I get an option to pretty print:
  • foobarbaz
  • adrian17
    yeah
  • adrian17
  • foobarbaz
I wanted to provide the exact same functionality for the network dev tools:
  • foobarbaz
  • foobarbaz
  • adrian17
I think it'd be the best if you made a bugreport (feature request) for these two and requested assistance.
  • adrian17
Note that there also is (probably more active) slack - see the link in the topic.
  • Kwan
    foobarbaz: have you tried nightly?
  • Kwan
I thought the network panel got pretty print the other week...
  • foobarbaz
I'd just grabbed the latest from mercurial a few hours ago :)
  • foobarbaz
    At least, it cloned mozilla-unified
  • foobarbaz
    Via bootstrap.py
  • Kwan
okay, you might mean a different pretty print to what I mean then
  • BrandonC
    oh hi
  • BrandonC
its on other irc server thing. this channel
  • BrandonC
    i did not know.
  • BrandonC
    so hi .
  • BrandonC
um. using the dev tool; my css id and classes dont auto populate.
  • BrandonC
ive just found the check box where toggling it didnt help.
  • BrandonC
ive gon back to old ff in past and found it to work. just wondering if anyone knows of this
  • BrandonC
is it working like it should?
  • adrian17
    auto populate?
  • BrandonC
    or auto complete css
  • BrandonC
unde the inspect tool , the rules for css section
  • BrandonC
  • BrandonC
here it would automaticly put a v after my .k
  • adrian17
these are CSS rules. They reflect what is in the stylesheet, not what the individial elements' classes are.
  • BrandonC
in past when id type, it would use what was in the html class or id field, along with tags like div or img
  • BrandonC
i can find an older version of ff that it did this in if it helps
  • BrandonC
imgur.com/a/DVzKB is this not that setting?
  • adrian17
no; this is about the style editor (which is not inspector, but another tab)
  • BrandonC
    ah ok
  • BrandonC
    im downloading 45 to see
  • BrandonC
so it may have been fire bug when it was a plugin doing that
  • BrandonC
i used it all the times
  • BrandonC
    time*
  • BrandonC
and now it seems firebug is with ff?
  • BrandonC
    yea thats it
  • BrandonC
in old version of ff i got firebug plugin and it does this
  • BrandonC
does that mean ff dev tool 'should' also?
  • adrian17
Chrome and FF had Firebug-style developer tools for a long time now
  • adrian17
(still no idea what behavior you're referring to though)
  • BrandonC
imgur.com/a/DVzKB in the bottom image when the lower arrow of red, i start typing .k ... it will autocomplete the rest of the div's class of kv
  • BrandonC
or allow me to use arrow keys to cycle up and down thru the posobilitis based on what ive typed so far
  • BrandonC
Firefox Setup 36.0.exe en-us with firebug plugin will autocomplete the css tags, ids, and classes
  • BrandonC
as you can see here imgur.com/a/7tBzz
  • BrandonC
it autocompleted the portion in blue
  • BrandonC
adrian17, ill stick around for bit inase youd need more info but now that i know how to get it back ill not worry about it
  • adrian17
(oh, right, now I got it.)
